Hair Coloring

I only get my hair cut at Jixi Salon, but they offer a range of other beauty and spa services as well, including hair coloring as pictured here. They've just moved into a nice new location with lovely landscaping and big windows all around. I also like the products they use, without heavy synthetic smells slamming your senses. I've tried some hair color adventures in my day, but I'm currently content with my natural two-tone silver and brown. You simply can't get that look reproduced in any salon, anywhere. Even one as good as Jixi.

This is such a great image with a big ole message about beauty rituals. Nicely done, Elaine.

I'm rocking the recent silver additions to my own hair. Hey, platinum is the most valuable metal, right?

I could not figure out what this picture was in the thumbnails!

I have done highlights on my hair before and once I tried dying it coppery red. It did not look good. Mother nature really knows best and I think it's best not to stray too far from your natural color.

I still haven't found "my" salon here in Jackson.

Interesting post! But I'm a bit speechless regarding the coloring the hair since men do not usually do it. ;)

Thanks for your comment about Persian Gulf.

They say you have to suffer to be beautiful, right? I don't know...a lot of money gets made every year because people don't like the way they look. That's a pity, in my opinion.

My colorist doesn't put my hair in those white paper towels (?) when he colors my hair. I wonder what they're for?

Sigh, I've been coloring my hair since I was 30! Runs in the family. I still color it because my husband's family is blessed with non-silvering hair (his dad's 70 and not a single white hair on his head!). I don't want to look so much older than him.

My colorist is me aided by Revelon 60 Dark Ash Blonde. I visited the "salon of me" yesterday morning. I feel pretty! Oh so pretty and witty and wise

I hear ya sister! Mine is more silver than brown, sigh, but I am OK with it. I use the money I save not coloring it, for my trips to TJ Maxx.

I cut and colour my own hair. British hairdressers. No way. That looks like an alien emerging from some sort of lagoon.

Laurie - I always liked the silver in my mother's hair as well. I think it looks good on people generally. But changing hair colors can be fun too, but I did all that before I earned much silver hair of my own. 8^)

Halcyon - It can take a while to find the right hair dresser in a new town or area. Good luck!

Sara - I can see the pretty curls in your childhood picture. Very nice!

Meead - Men are starting to do it more and more in the US. I think the college age ones just do it for creative expression, with very noticeable colors. Some older men think it makes them look younger - just like the older women!

Saretta - I think it is sad if people are in despair and spend money based on advertising promises. It's better to have fun with whatever you choose to do. As for suffering, I have never had a "waxing" and I never will! Ouch!

Hilda - I think the folds isolate sections of hair with a slightly different shade of coloring paste. When it's done, the woman will have layers of hair with slight highlights/lowlights that may look more like "real" hair in the end. I'm glad you seem happy to color your hair. I was in my thirties when I experimented more.

P - I like your soundtrack. 8^) I have never, ever had the courage to try coloring my hair for myself. I know you are witty and wise, so I'll bet you are pretty too.

Virginia - High five to you! I'm extremely lucky to live in a community where very few women (or men, for that matter) wear much makeup, and there are lots of gorgeous heads of silver, platinum, white, smoke, salt & pepper, cinnamon & sugar... And think of all the packaging we aren't putting in the landfills.

Babooshka - I salute you as well, especially for being able to cut your own hair! That takes tremendous skill, even if you're shaving it all off!

It looks like a messy job.

I haven't colored my hair since I was 15 or 16, but it was done out of sheer rebellion/experimentation and teenage angst. :-)

I used to color my hair, but now I don't, as I'm developing a good Cruella DeVille streak. Mwahaha

Oi veh's mir, that evokes early childhood trauma of always being forced to go get a permanent wave, with those smelly chemicals and sitting under a dryer. I hated all those curls.
Now that I rule my own head, let it be short and simple hair and let the grey show forth. Who cares.
Is what you show what they call "foils"? Thanks for explaining it here. I never understood.

"Louis," wearing his hair in one of those fashion-forward Reverse Mohawks has little need for this sort of thing.... ;-)

It's interesting that they use products without the chemical fumes and odors. I don't like the idea of harsh chemicals just the other side of my brain, where they might leach through!

Ming - I waited until I was in my twenties, but was never too radical.

KG - I've got big flashes coming from both sides.

Dina - I had some bad perms in my day too, but nobody forced me. Those burning chemicals on the scalp can't be wholesome, can they?

Louis - I think reverse mohawks are sexy.

Jill - They use Aveda products, so the chemicals aren't nearly has bad as most brands. Imagine being the hairdresser that has to work with them all day!
