March Theme Day: Glass
Twenty five years later, this art project by Willits High School students still brightens the row of windows on the side wall of the City Council Chambers. About a dozen panes in all, they depict cultural and natural history themes of our area. Arts education has many lasting effects, and this investment in it was sponsored in part by an Exemplary Arts Grant from the California Arts Council.

Very beautiful, and made by teenagers!
Would that our high schools had such projects and good teachers and encouragement for art.
These were made by high school students? Wow. They're fantastic! A beautiful choice for theme day, Elaine!
A great achievement to be able to point to. I'd be curious to find out what happened to all those school kids.
Great choice, great picture!
If only we were as progressive here. Art at all leves should be supported and encouraged like this.
I think that in order to graduate high school students should have to produce some piece that beautifies their community. Imagine how that would invest their emotions and pride. Pieces like the glass reinforce my belief.
Beautiful! Excellent choice for the theme day.
what a cool high school art project. I wish more public buildings had more art from students displayed. it connects youth to government and citizens to youth.
I love this.
That's just so cool. Those students could potentially have brought their kids to see this effort of theirs back in the day. I read through all the names just to see if I recognized anyone's. Looks like a brother and sister were in it together. How many more panels does this go on for? The colors pull me right in.

"Exemplary Art" is a perfect name for it. They should be very proud.
I like Kym's idea. Not only would every community be a nicer place, but every student would learn something about community.
Great post.
novel idea! beautiful!
How beautiful, and a lasting memory of those who created it.
It's great when high school students get a chance to display theit interests and talents. How wonderful that you helped with this effort by chosing this project for the theme day!
Very colorful - what a great project for the students!
What a natural choice for theme day, Elaine. Great support for those students from grants, teachers and community. Wonderful!
Very interesting! The flowers in the middle pannel have a certain Art Nouveau look. Just lovely!
I'm glad you enjoyed this one, everybody. The students involved with this could be grandparents by now, and the result of the project is bound to last longer than they do.
I think each graduating class gets involved with some sort of project, but sometimes it's raising money for school equipment, etc. Those kinds of efforts will be needed more and more in these economic times.
Thanks for your visits!
It's a great work and Kim is right. Really nice choice !
Very nice.
