October Theme Day: Lines
Considering how small and remote we are, Willits is tremendously blessed to have highly rated Howard Hospital, including an emergency room, right in town. But sometimes injuries require the attention of specialists and life-support systems in larger city hospitals, and such victims are usually airlifted by helicopter to Santa Rosa or Sacramento. Such flights can travel through the air directly, in straight lines, to the hospital landing pad at their destination. The non-profit medical air-transport company that serves this area, and uses this helipad not far from the hospital, is called Calstar.
The first day of each month is Theme Day for City Daily Photo Bloggers around the world. Click here to view thumbnails for all 155 participants in this month's theme, "lines".

Ah... this is a particularly itneresting line of thinking Elaine.
I guess we tend to take these things for granted and do not realise how lucky we really.
Good stuff.
Oh great idea and so original. A helipad. Not expecting another of those today. Nice one.
Thanks for your comment at Sydney Daily Photo I’m not near my computer at the moment (have a visit to see where I am!), so sorry for not commenting earlier.
Very nice choice for October theme.
These are very straight lines! And, this place is so important to the community. Thanks for visiting my blog, too.
Original choice for the lines theme. How did you manage to get so close to the landing pad to take the picture? You must really have connections in Willits.
These lifelines are crucial. Thank goodness we have them. Nice post today US
Well, yet another creative interpretation of lines, ones that we shouldn't take for granted. Good theme choice, Elaine.
A nice find!
One of the most interesting narratives on what this line image is, ans also one of the most important. Inspired choice.
Nice choice for theme day. Interesting post.
a great choice for the theme
OOoo, I knew it was a heliopad before I even read about ti. Cool angle for your shot. I'm relieved that I didn't experience your heat this summer. I wilt in it like the grass pictured.

Not only a good use of the theme, but a great angle for your shot.
mm straight and diagonal lines...good good! great choice for today!
That's a very creative take on the theme day - I like it!
Thanks for your comment - come back tomorrow and see who won my guessing game!
I love the composition, athough there's something about a square helipad I find decidedly disturbing!
Sunshine Coast Daily - Australia
Great idea!
Great post for theme day :)
I like your humanitarian perspective. I'm sad to say that my lawn is in worse shape than theirs.
Elaine, yours is one of the more tangential line posts I've seen today. Geometry was fun when you were in school? Shortest distance between two points, and all that?
Regarding yesterday's question ..... well, ok. I won't go there :)
You posted the most important lines of all! Great contribution to TD - makes us all a bit more humble about having people who helps other around like that. Well done.
Slightly off topic but I find it interesting that in this photo the grass is bone dry and yet in the hospital photo of a few days back is lush an green. How do they get around the water restrictions?
Thank you all so much for visiting and leaving such kind comments. I'll try to answer a few questions.
Halcyon - I have no connections. 6^) It is located on an unfenced lot next to a fire district station in the southeast part of town. I just drove in and walked over.
Chuck - I liked geometry way better than algebra!
Simon - Well, for one thing, I took the picture of the hospital several weeks ago, before the most severe rationing was put in place. It also gets more shade than some civic greens, so watering briefly at night (less evaporation) once or twice a week is allowed. In contrast the helipad area had not been watered at all throughout the summer, and gets full sun. We expect rain again on Friday, so that should perk everything up without depleting the reservoir.
Good interpretation and I like the aspect (is that the right word) of you photo.
Nice shot. Good sentiments.
May no one need Calstar service, amen.
First helipad I've seen for theme day and I've been making the rounds! Creative choice and definately something we shouldn't take for granted, nice post!
