Feminine Mystique
Remarkably, the artist's signature on this mural indicates it was painted in 1977. The storefront facing the street is now a watch repair shop, so I had always assumed this beauty salon reference was just left up for the sake of the artwork. It wasn't until I walked around this side of Main Street today that I discovered Valerie's on the opposite side of the building, still an active business. I need to get out more.

Words cannot express how much I love this!
Advertising facia prepared beautiful.
It is a neat sign. Or signage. Whichever. It is nice.
On the portal I thought these were the eyes of Buddha. It does look like an OLD sign, even if Valerie's is still there!
The shadows make this all the more interesting!
Mmmmmm...
Backsides.
really like your choice of light and shadow to make this picture such an interesting post, Elaine.
I, too, have always liked this sign, but didn't know the business was still operating. Always called it "The Blue Lady." Good job, Elaine!
It's like Paris Hilton, one of the eyes is slightly bung!
The shadows really do add a touch of mystery to the mural. Good choice.
You crack me up!
Laurie - The artist is "Chet '77".
IDP - Thank you!
Abe - You too!
Bibi - It has a touch of eastern mysticism to it, with that star on her forehead.
Chuck - Thanks. If the trees still had their summer leaves, I couldn't have made the shot.
Joe - So you like my tagging system? 8^)
Raf - I don't really plan anything ahead, but I always have my camera with me. You never know what you might stumble upon. Thanks.
Glo - The "Valerie" stuff is so pale on the light colored background, so I think a lot of us have missed it. I looked in the glass door, and the place looks like a time-warp, but still used. And they are listed in the phone book too. Mysteries!
Kris - I noticed the asymmetries of the face too. The eyebrows are shaped differently, but that seems to make it more authentic. In a blue fantasy sort of way.
Kym - Thank you. You've probably seen this too.
P - I mean it, P. If I spent as much time out there as I do sitting here, I'd probably know more about a lot more.
Thanks y'all!
