I'm All Thumbs

I felt a little guilty. Me, out along the roadside, free to roam at will, equipped with useful opposable thumbs. This lovely bay mare, ensconced within a well kept, but grass-denuded paddock. How easy it would have been for me to grasp and tear off tasty clumps of wild oat grass growing just beyond the reach of her hungry lips. There were moments where I thought I detected a look of impatient disappointment that this crazy ape wasn't getting a clue.

It's a shame about the animal but it is a fun picture.

The more I've been around people with livestock, the more I try not to disturb the animals belonging to people I don't knot that I encounter. A tuft of grass probably wouldn't have done any harm, but then maybe she was on a special diet, or had been colicky, or the roadside grass had gotten some of the spray on it that the road crews apply. Too many variables, so I erred in the direction of earning the horse's disrespect.

Great picture and fun commentary.

You chose wisely - I hate it when people feed my horses! One time a neighbor fed my horse an apple that had been soaking in his martini! It didn't hurt the horse, but what was he thinking, giving a horse alcohol????

Elaine and Crittoria,
Yes, that is what we volunteers taught and were taught at Heifer Ranch too.
P.S. I e-mailed you a comment.
