Willits High School Entrance

About the only bit of architecture that comes close to the grand decoration of Pasadena-style Palladian, is the front portal to Willits High School. Someday, I'll have to check out the interior. My high school, elsewhere, was built in 1960 or so, and looks more like a Bauhaus concentration camp. I hope these kids appreciate what they have.

At first glance, I thought I had entered Lahore DP by mistake.

Dina, Willlits should have such splendor!

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. The rest of the exterior is undistinguished, but at least they have this one closely seen spot.

That's a beautiful doorway. I also hope that the students appreciate it, but I bet they just walk right under and don't look up...such is life. I'm glad that you shared it with us, though!

I don't think kids appreciate architecture until later in life. Lord knows, I didn't appreciate anything until I had to work for it. ;-)

Neat. One of the high schools in Topeka, KS was built under the works progress administration during the depression. They made it extra fancy so the people would hold on to their jobs as long as possible. Maybe they did the same thing at this HS? It looks really nice.

Gorgeous. I love such details, for the sake of beauty. And perhaps on a doorway like this, for the sake of impressing, as well.
