Miracle Mile #2: Willlits Buffet

Bless their hearts. They got an extra "L" in their sign.

Welll, they can be forgiven; just so they tally up the bill correctly. :)
You, too, seem to have the sometimes-curse of the proofreader's eye. Yes?

Would someone explain "Live Crab Buffet"? Is it a buffet for live crabs only? A buffet that serves live crabs? I need some help here. Our CHinese buffets here in Alabama aren't so chic. We have the usual fare plus oriental delicacies such as Jello, French fries, banana pudding etc.

Hello !

Surprenant...

The extra "l" adds emphasis suitable for a restaurant. "You get plenty here, no shortage of l's like other places." It is, after all, an all-you-can-eat buffet in an all-you-can-write Willllits!

This is too great!

Great picture. Never noticed the extra "L", altho I live just down the street, & must have passed the sign a milllion times!

(Could you let me know if you receive this OK? This is my first time ever commenting on a blog. Exciting!)

Given that Mme la Vache is Asian, "Louis" will not make any joke about Chinese menu (or sign) translations.... ;-)

Saretta, Dina, Hilda, KG - I'm glad to share the laugh. 8^)

Virginia - I haven't actually had the courage to go in and find out! I had questions in my mind about that too, but it remains our small town enigma.

Webradio - Thanks.

Benjamin - That's it! A buffet means more, more, more! I can see how that would be the excess letter though. All the letter forms in Willits are very vertical, so what's an additional stroke of the pen here or there, right?

Laurie - Thanks.

Glo - Yay! You made it in! And you prove my point made to Benjamin. Like Dina said, I must just have an eye for these things.

Louis - But did they triple the "L" in Chinese as well?! That would explain a lot...

I ate a lot of Chinese buffet when I was in college. Now, I can only eat about 1/3 of what I used to consume. The irony of it all is I'm 40 lbs heavier than when I was in college. :-(

Ming - I'm older than you are, so of course I win this game. I'm about 70 pounds heavier than I was in college. If we were livestock, our farmers would refer to us as "easy keepers". A few calories go a long way with us, and come the famine, our survival odds are better. ;^)

"Easy keepers"! That cracks me up, as does "If we were livestock"!
Maybe I'm just feeling bovine this morning.

Extra lllove for Willlits.

Louis la Vache said...

"Louis" doesn't know about that, Elaine - they have an 'L' of a time with the 'L' sound as it is! ;-)

Dina said...

Louis has a point. Maybe it is pronounced Wirrits Buffet.

Hee! They are trying at least. :)

I can't believe that the company that produced the sign for them wouldn't have said something though.
