Patriotic Storefront

It may be vacant, but this empty building on Main Street is still showing its colors. Today is Independence Day in the U.S. There will be a parade and rodeo today, but I'm one of the folks who always has to work during much of the festivities of our annual Frontier Days. I'll see what I can do about getting some pictures tomorrow.

It must be hard to find a shot that reflects such an important day without going too over the top.
As per usual, you didn't let us down.
Nice touch...

Sorry you have to work today. Hope you can still see fireworks tonight. The Rodeo sounds like fun.

Happy 4th, Elaine. Hope you get some time off.

That photo is beautifully cropped and shot. AND, it catches the heart or lack of it, or America right now.

Very nice shot for the occassion, Elaine!
Hey, I like your new geocounter. Pretty snazzy widget. Hope you get a chance to enjoy and capture some of festivities at least.

I used to decorate my store for all the holidays. . . .one of my favorite things to do.

Re: the electric car. . .My husband keeps saying we're buying a golf cart when we move back to LV so we can drive around the subdivision and not waste gas. :-)

Also loved the mural . . . . although I didn't look for Big Foot . . . . I was afraid that might ruin my view of it.

I am constantly surprised as I work my way around blogs, just how big July 4th is. I guess I just do not understand.

What a quaint store front! Are most downtown stores vacant in Willits?

Belated Happy 4th July.

Rose - You are very kind, but as you'll see, I will be going over the top very much in the next few days.

Sometimes..., KG - Thank you!

Jim - The evidence of my photos will tell the tale.

Kym - It makes for very mixed feelings in times like this. I suppose it is emblematic.

Raf - Thanks. It's strange, but I seem to get slightly different results reported by the Geocounter than I do on the Sitemeter. I think they identify cities a little differently.

Louis - Thanks, my mom had a Studebaker in the 50s but I don't know what model. A beige sedan that my dad converted into a study retreat on the edge of the woods on my grandfather's property. The last time I found it, trees were growing through the middle of it.

Boston, Benjamin - Thank you.

Chris - LV will be a perfect place for your own solar powered anything! And if you want to keep your fantasies of Bigfoot intact, I understand.

Julie - Besides being the Founding Day sort of celebration, it has the added virtue of being in summer (sunshine, fun and games, outdoor eating), as well as not being a holdover from the religious calendar like Christmas and Easter. So for many folks, it's a favorite.

Ming - I hope the Chamber of Commerce doesn't hear you ask that! There have been quite a few new businesses opening in the past year, actually. But some of the vacant ones are more photogenic to my way of seeing.

Thanks for all your visits, and sorry to be so late with my response. I was busy taking more photos, and then I was pooped!
