Frontier Days Rodeo

July 4th was a big day for pictures (parade, barbecue, rodeo), and I was not sure where to begin. Getting down to basics, the Willits Frontier Days Rodeo claims it's the oldest continuously operating rodeo in the state, with this being its 82nd year. It's only since living in Willits that I've begun to appreciate the events, with my favorite being bullriding. That is to say, I watch it, I don't do it. This rider was going for the full 8 seconds.

There will be a lot more of this day's pictures in the next few posts, with liberal use of my Overflow blog, but tonight, I'm beat.

Wow, it must be interesting shot with close range to rodeo action. Cool shot.

Neat! Haven't been to a rodeo since I was a kid. My husband has never been to one. I'll have to find one around here to show him something really American. Not sure if it will be as good as yours though!

Hey girl, you must be all tuckered out from your vicarious bullriding!

Jim - You're in Texas and you haven't seen bullriding yet! You must take care of that soon. If you go to PBRnow.com see if you can find an event near you. 8^)

iBlowfish - It wasn't as close as I would have liked, but at least I had a clear view!

Halcyon - See note to Jim above. ;^)

Dina - Tuckered out is exactly what I was!

D.C. - P.B.R. takes the bullriding shows all over the place. I'll bet there are P.R.C.A. events in range if you're committed, or look for them on TV if you've got it.

Yeeee-haaaaaah!

I like the grandstand, it's sweet. And Dina's comment made me laugh!

I guess all that partying, bullriding...er....I mean, bullride watch and BBQ done you in. :-)

Can I request for some BBQ photos? I love BBQ -- the concept and the food. Yum!

Petrea - I know you have a little hankerin' for cowboy life, so I'll post some more of the rodeo soon.

Ming - I know how disappointed you were that I missed the biker barbecue (at least the food part), so I was careful to get food photos for you. Look for those right after tomorrow's post (meaning Monday), usually up just after the midnight hour.
