Another Abandoned Railcar

This one says it's a Seaboard System car, among other things.

Amazing that something this expensive would just set there.

I love the colors, the red really pops out!

It's quite sad to see it abandoned like that. Surely it could be useful somewhere...

How do you dispose of rail cars? They're so huge. All that metal can be recycled.

What a waste...I always feel they would make a lovely home for someone...

The railcars in Willits have been "trapped" here for about ten years or more. The rails themselves were in a sort of limbo for a while, because nobody seemed make an economic go of it. This region gets a lot of landslides on the slopes where the railroad line goes, and there are now old slides both north and south on the line. There's no way out for these cars. Drifters were breaking in and starting fires, putting firefighters and themselves in danger. Recently, many were scrapped. Check some of my posts, by clicking the label "railroad" for more information.

I love it when you get out in the entropy and take pictures of it. This is a gorgeous shot, Gidget.

Don't think I want details on the spray-painted comment to the immediate left of the red door. Blair Witch Project Redux?

Petrea - In just photographic terms, it's my favorite kind of subject. Sadly, I never did learn to board surf, just body.

T Gary - It's scary, and I can't imagine what inspired its placement.
