Monster Truck

Oddly enough, there are still quite a handful of these giant wheels around town. Generally though, a lot of gas-guzzlers have "For Sale" signs in their windows.

Oi, I remember those from Arkansas. So you have them too, they're not just for swamps?? :)
They always made me laugh.

au moment ou on se bat pour les économies d'énergies, je trouve ces voitures hors sujets.

when it fights for energy savings, I find these cars out topics.

Yikes. I was surprised, after reading Dina's comment, that they actually served some purpose. I thought they were just a personal expression of ... taste.

This is an ideal post. The photo tells the tale without any doubt and the words just reinforce it. Wonderful post.

Gasoline jumped from $3.87 to $4.09 here in Brookville. People panicked when they realized it was $4.09 out on the Interstate and the cheap guy was still selling it at $3.87--long lines.

Good heavens. Do people really drive these things?

Here in Scotland petrol is now around $9 a gallon so can you imagine driving one of these over here?!

Gas is still rapidly rising here. We're at almost $4.80 per gallon not as bad as Europe but the worst I've ever seen.

How ironic that you post the photo of the gas guzzler the same day "Louis" posted about gas at $5.00 a gallon!

"Louis" really likes your comment "no one can sell wind to a sailor".

BTW - "Louis" added a link to your blog at his...

We see less & less on those around LA too. I thought it a good sign to see a brand new Prius drive into a super rich gated city of Rolling Hills.

Wow. Sure is a contrast to the cute little 'Smart' red number that Chuck posted the other day. Is your Gov. still taking heat about his Hummers or has he switched?

Dina and Kelly - It seems to me that the tires only give a few inches extra ground clearance, so I still think they are a fashion statement rather than anything practical. I have yet to see one that wasn't sparkling clean. ;^)

Olivier and Ann - They certainly are emblems of energy excess in my thinking.

magiceye - If they were only a few inches long, I would agree!

Abraham - Thank you. While Europe sneers at the price complaints of California, we are always higher priced than the midwest.

Dido - I know, I know, we hardly any tax burden loaded on our fuel as is the case for you. But have pity - the manufacturers are always years ahead selling efficient vehicles to you than they are here!

Kym - I hope you're in horseback riding distance of essential services. Maybe that cool neighbor of yours can make a pony cart.

Nathalie and Tash - There are about three of these monsters dwelling on my street alone!

Louis - Capturing energy that can't be commodified is the best revenge!

Jill - Honestly, I haven't followed the critics on that. He can afford whatever he wants, so the setting an example thing would be more like political theater than sincere changing of ways. There's plenty of gasoline currently, it's just sky-rocketing in price from speculators all wanting in on the same action. At least that's what makes sense to me right now. It will dry up soon enough. Buy electric, buy a horse, buy a bike, I tell myself. 8^)

How long has it been parked there? :-)

I can only imagine the cost of owning a monster truck like that. I bet it takes over $100 a week to run that thing.

I think the lot has a two hour limit, so he's on the move! 8^)

Sometime I see them in American movies and honestly I ask to myself why and where people (guys?) find them beautiful. By the way you confirm my idea: they sell after short time.
