Little Lake Industries Site

More than a decade ago, this manufacturer of redwood patio furniture was an important employer in Willits. By snooping around on-line, I saw that it was on a list of potential bio-fuel plants back in 1999. That never seems to have happened, and it has stood mostly vacant until recently. Now a local nurseryman uses part of it to warehouse vast quantities of what seems to be bags of planting mix and the like. I took this photo a while ago, but I just noticed yesterday that all of that conveyor/tube/funnel contraption has been completely removed. This becomes the first truly "historic" image on Willits Daily Photo.

Updated view in June.

Willits! I was so pleasantly surprised, make that eye-opening shocked, when I saw that you were from Willits. Do you know Monty Levenson and wife Kayo by any chance?

I was reading a book titled "Parisian Views" yesterday (and not at all today). It makes the point that photographs are freaky. Through photographs we are seeing a point in time in the past that anticipates the future, but that future (eventually) becomes long past.

You have a photo of those funnel things. When the photo was taken it was in their future to be removed. Now they have been removed and that removal is now in the past.

I have heard of the maker of much prized Japanese flutes, and have probably seen him, but alas I do not know him. Do you know him? Well you must! Have you ever been to Willits? I myself have only lived here since 2002.

It might be a perfect location for a nursery as they usually have gobs of stuff, especially in the summer, to set out for all to see. And in the case of bags of stuff I guess they already found a place for that there.

Thanks for the generous comment about my pants.

Hi, thanks for your notes.
Yes, the waterfall was very big.
Regarding the tower ... it belongs to several centuries ago: 1020 years ago. It is 55 meters (180 ft) tall and made of bricks.

Neat big old thing. I would have like to seen it work.

Interesting. I hope you'll post an "after" photo so we can see what it looks like now.

Thanks for the answers to my questions Meead! I'll be back to see more of Mashhad soon.

Hal, I'll try to get that shot and add it to this post later.

Thanks for your visits Jim and Abe!

The renowned shakuhachi maker and I have never met but we have corresponded for a number of years.

I've never been to Willits. Hey, is the Skunk Train still about?

The Skunk is here, but barely ever runs from the Willits station anymore. Everyone in town is disappointed that the latest owners haven't been able to do better for us, and nothing has rolled yet this season. I've been waiting to do a post, hoping to see some action.
