Deliveries Come to an End

Our deliveries from Live Power Farm CSA are due to end next week, for this season. Subscriptions for the next season begin in May. In the interim, the farmer's market will continue indoors, and I expect some cold-weather produce will be available there.

I know I've mentioned the efforts in Willits to develop a more localized economy, not only to keep money circulating among local businesses, but also to build our own food production base in the face of threats to our food security. Willits was featured in a documentary called "Escape from Suburbia" (and may have been in the precursor, "End of Suburbia", but I'm not sure), and I found a promo/excerpt on You Tube called Escape from Suburbia returns to Willits, CA. I know almost all of the speakers, and some even know me. No, I'm not in it, but I hope you'll enjoy seeing this six minute clip anyway. 8^)

The video is really nice. I feel like I already know Willits, all thanks to you, Elaine. Almost as if one of those CSA baskets had my name on it. We your readers love you a bushel and a peck!

Love the video, passed it along to our local Green Market and a couple of the groups that support CSA activity here!

The video is really encouraging Elaine. I hope these views are typical of the majority of Americans. If they are there may be some hope for the planet yet.

There is a movement called locavores in NYC too, where restaurants and local residents only buy and eat locally produced foods.

I believe it's a great concept but I eat out so much that I can't be too choosy about where the food comes from.

The light falling on the baskets really makes this photo sing. Nice!

Dina - Thank you so much! The produce deliveries have been a big part of my weekly routine, so they made their way onto this blog more often than most things. Well, except perhaps Ardella's Diner. I love you too.

Bibi - I suppose it's like the seasons. Just when you get used to one, along comes another.

Babzy - I do too! But after a few years, they start to fall apart.

Kelly - I want to get someone to sponsor something like your rainbarrel art series! It would be so perfect for Willits!

Wayne - I don't think it's the majority of thinkers anywhere in your country or mine, but like the one woman said, you just have to start.

Ming - You suffer for not enjoying cooking. I can't imagine how NYC would find enough food for all those people in a transportation emergency. I'm told that all the food in our supermarkets would only last long enough to feed the whole of Willits for a week or less.

Kym - Thanks! I've enjoyed all your posts about emergency readiness, and I know you are on top of it.
