Hope for a New Beginning

Rebuilding national dignity and sanity is a tall order, and can happen only with everyone's participation and care. There is no going back, just forward one step at a time.

This is another view of Little Lake Valley from Willits-Hearst Road, beside an oak tree, with beams of light streaming across Willits in the distance.

  5. Well said. We need to ALL take responsibility, and think for ourselves about what we want for the US. May Obama succeed and stay safe.

  12. As I watched the glowing, exuberant faces of citizens celebrating last night on TV, I couldn't help but think... oh, what wonderful things we can accomplish with a hopeful, expectant citizenry excited about helping make this country better. I was moved by Obama's speech but I was absolutely humbled and graced by the sheer outpouring of love and support from the country. It's a beautiful thing!

  16. Great photo of what appears to be a frosty morning in Willits. When I was a kid, that photo would have been filled with cattle. The calves would have been bawling for the moms nourishment, and the sound of chainsaws and logging trucks would have filled the valley, and the slight tinge of wood smoke from that mornings warming fires would have wafted through the canyon. Prosperity and progress was the plan that they had back then. Now, there is to many people to make progress. Strange how that happens…

  18. I look forward to a bright future too! I know that people in Iran are also happy of Obama's victory. I hope the Iranians government takes advantage of this opportunity to start talking with the US and let the people in these two countries wave hand for each other.

Let's see how things will be changed.

  19. Thank you all for coming by. I think more than ever in American history, we have witnessed the contrast between the dark and shameful past with the bright and hopeful future. It has filled us with wonder, and anticipation that intelligence and creativity can prevail over ignorance and superstition.

I so appreciate your comments, from friends old and new, near and far. It's our global honeymoon, yet with much work, and even heartbreak, yet to come. But it will be better. Much better.

  24. I knew this perspective immediately. I grew up a few miles from here, on String Creek Road. Of all the things I miss, watching the valley come to life is high on that list.
